Employability & Transition (E/T) Program
Building Real-World Skills, Confidence, and Independence
At Hill Top Prep, we believe every student has the potential to live, work, and thrive in their community. Our Employability & Transition (E/T) Program equips neurodiverse high school students and young adults with the skills, experience, and mindset needed to move from school to the working world with confidence.
Whether students are exploring first-time employment, building independent living skills, or preparing for life after graduation, E/T meets them where they are—and helps them take the next step.
The E/T Program is ideal for neurodiverse students in grades 10–12 and postgraduates who are:
- Interested in employment, community engagement, or transition programs
- Building readiness for independent living
- Seeking additional support to develop workplace, social, and life skills
- Preparing to graduate from Hill Top or transition into adult services
Students may participate in E/T as part of their full-day schedule integrated into the Upper School or Horizons programming.
Core Program Componets
Hill Top partners with local businesses and organizations to create internship and employment opportunities tailored to each student’s interests and abilities.
Students learn how to apply for jobs, build resumes and portfolios, and navigate professional environments—with real-time feedback and support.
From grocery shopping to doing laundry, the E/T program incorporates independent living practice into each week to foster autonomy and real-world problem-solving.
Students receive targeted coaching to help with organization, planning, self-monitoring, and adaptability—key traits for future success.
Whether it’s managing a job interview, asking for help on the job, or navigating public spaces, students develop practical social communication strategies for everyday life.
A Three-Year Journey of Growth

Students begin their journey by mastering independence and executive function skills. Experiential learning takes center stage with activities like the Holiday Pop-Up Shop and Dogtoberfest, alongside worksite opportunities both on campus and in the community.
Some of the student's objectives are to apply foundational skills in communication, time management, and decision-making. Additional highlights include: community service projects, t-shirt design and creation, and Functional Fridays.

Building on their foundation, students engage in internships and long-term projects that deepen their understanding of workplace professionalism and collaboration. Partnerships with organizations like Ohana Farm and Plush Mills Senior Living Community provide unique, hands-on experiences.
Some of the student's objectives are to transition skills into real-world applications through internships and project management. Additional highlights include cider-making with Ohana Farm, internships, and professional communication skill-building.

Students take the lead in entrepreneurial endeavors, such as operating The Bean Scene, Hill Top’s student-run coffee shop. With the support of mentors and job coaches, they refine job acquisition skills, business communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Some of the student's objectives are demonstration of independence in professional and personal settings, with additional highlights including The Bean Scene, job shadowing, and mentorship opportunities.
